The homecoming game was a wake up call to the coaches of the Varsity Football team. The final score in the game was 46-38. While being interviewed, Coach Booze (pronounced BUZZ-AY), was asked his opinion about the other team, he replied “As a coaching staff we knew what to expect after watching film and practicing all week in preparation for California Lutheran (Cal Lu). But, when you step on the field you need to execute every play and every down to be successful. We were not consistent on offense and defense in our execution. We did not know what to expect for we have never played this team before.” He also commented that California Lutheran played very well and that they were a difficult team to beat. Also some of the football players were asked to share their thoughts of the game. This is what they said:

It was a really close game all the way through scoring back and forth. The Eagles had the lead in the fourth quarter 30-24, and then the Cal Lu scored to tie it up 30-30. When the Eagles got the ball back their offense slipped up because they fumbled on the 20-yard line. Cal Lu recovered it and drove back and scored to take the lead 46-38 and that’s how the score remained, with Excelsior losing by one touchdown. It was an extremely great atmosphere to be in with the crowd cheering us on the whole time through thick and thin. We were so close to winning, it was a bad feeling to lose such a close game, but so far we have gone on to win the next two games. (Steven Edinborough)

Overall the team did a great job with the final score being so close.
